Free Estimate Termite
Termites feed on timber, so if you have a wooden house and notice some damage, it is a good idea to get a free estimate. Termite nests will often be located beneath floorboards, and even within dugout holes in the frame of your house, and they are especially attracted to moisture, so you should repair any leaks you might have in the ceiling of your house. What you need to do first is to identify the termite nests to be absolutely sure that your home is infested with termites.
The second step would be to get hold of a building consultant who will be able to come around to your home and give you a free estimate. Termite nests can be found by building consultants by using a special inspection device known as a moisture meter to locate where the most moisture might be found in your walls, and thus where the termites would have settled. The consultant will also be able to see inside the walls, using a specialized instrument known as a borer scope, and then maybe even cut through the wall and even strip the wall lining to view the termite nest. The wall will often be found to be hollow, as the termites feed on it.
When receiving your free estimate, termite activity will also be noted by the presence of what are called mud tubes. These are small trails of mud going up the walls and even into the cavities in the ceilings, all produced by the termites. One thing you'll notice is that the building consultant will not disturb the termites once they have been found, or else they will migrate to another site within the house and you'll have to start the identifying process all over again, also making it extremely hard work to get rid of these termites by using a pest controller.
The building consultant will explain to you that, after giving you your free estimate, termite damage will need to be checked on once a year at least to ensure that the termites have not returned. You may need to install new timber that has been specially treated with certain chemicals to keep the termites at bay. Get a pest control specialist to come around and inspect your home annually, not to mention spray the existing termites with pesticides, as this will reduce the risk of these creatures from returning.
Once you've received your free estimate, termite pesticide treatment and installation of new timber (if need be); you should always be extremely vigilant of the fact that the termites can return, and so you should do everything in your power to ensure that they do not. Always repair any leaks or damp ceiling conditions immediately, so as not to attract termites that thrive on moist conditions. If you have plants outside your house, move them away from your walls to prevent any contact with your house, as this could become an easy entry point for termites living underground.
